Vozinha says World Cup fame has cost him privacy

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha says the fame he gained during the 2026 World Cup has sharply reduced his privacy, and that he would choose his life before the tournament if given the option. In an interview with The Observer, he described being approached for photographs and autographs at restaurants and seeing people film him. He said he misses the peace and tranquillity he had before becoming widely known. Vozinha became a breakout figure during Cape Verde’s first appearance at the World Cup. He made seven saves in a 0-0 draw with Spain, helping the team reach the knockout stage. Cape Verde later lost 3-2 to Argentina. His performances brought attention well beyond the tournament, and he now plays for Chilean club Colo-Colo after entering the World Cup without a club. Reports say his Instagram following rose from about 56,000 before the tournament to more than one million after the match against Spain. One account gives a much higher figure of 28 million, but does not specify when it was measured or how the number was established.
