Visa stablecoin settlement volume hits $20B annualized

Published 8 September 2026

Visa has reported significant expansion in its stablecoin-linked card business, with payment volume surging nearly 200% and settlement volume reaching a $20 billion annualized run rate. The company announced on September 8, 2026, that over 160 stablecoin card programs are now operational globally, a substantial increase from previous periods. This growth marks stablecoin-linked cards as one of the fastest-growing segments within Visa's portfolio. The payment volume increase of nearly 200% year-over-year reflects growing consumer adoption and usage of these cards. Simultaneously, the stablecoin settlement volume has surged to a $20 billion annualized rate, representing a more than 15-fold increase compared to the same period last year. This figure is a significant jump from the approximately $7 billion annualized rate reported in March 2026, indicating rapid acceleration in the underlying settlement activity. Visa's stablecoin cards function by linking a customer's cryptocurrency wallet or digital asset account with Visa's established merchant network.
