Verstappen’s Sepang win marks first for Red Bull Powertrains

Published 6 October 2026

Max Verstappen’s victory at Sepang marked Red Bull Powertrains’ first Grand Prix win in its debut season supplying the team’s car, and Christian Horner publicly congratulated Red Bull, Verstappen and the project’s team. The result was also Red Bull’s first win of the 2026 season and Ford’s first Formula 1 race victory since 2003, according to the reports. Horner, Red Bull’s former team principal, posted a message on Instagram after the race. He wrote: “From a hole in the ground to race winner in five years. Huge congratulations to Red Bull Ford Powertrains, Max and the whole team. An incredible achievement!” The message accompanied a photograph of a Red Bull Ford engine, according to one account. The milestone came in the first season that Red Bull Powertrains supplied the team’s power unit under the new engine regulations. The reports describe the race as the Bahrain Grand Prix held at Sepang in Malaysia. They do not resolve the discrepancy between the event’s Bahrain Grand Prix name and its Malaysian location, so the result is identified here by its venue.
