Ford Recalls 223,472 F-150 Trucks Over Fuel Tank Defect

Ford Motor Company is recalling 223,472 F-150 pickup trucks from model years 2023 through 2027 due to a defect that could cause the front fuel tank to leak or detach while the vehicle is in motion. The recall, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, covers trucks built between January 4, 2023, and August 27, 2026. According to the safety filing, the front fuel tank straps on the affected vehicles may not have been properly secured during assembly. This defect creates a risk of fuel leakage, which can increase the danger of a fire, or cause the engine to stall. If the tank detaches completely, it becomes a road hazard that could lead to a crash. Ford has stated there is no warning before a failure occurs. The company traced the root cause to periods when cameras used to verify the proper installation of the fuel tank straps were not in continuous use at its F-150 assembly plants. The recall includes trucks that were unsold or had been in service for fewer than three months as of August 27, 2026, because the defect appears early in a vehicle's life. Ford has not received any reports of injuries or crashes linked to this specific issue.
