US Financial Markets Closed September 7 For Labor Day

U.S. financial markets, including the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, are closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day. Trading on both major exchanges will resume at their standard 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time opening bell on Tuesday, September 8. The closure extends to U.S. bond markets and over-the-counter trading platforms, which are also observing the federal holiday. Labor Day, celebrated on the first Monday of September, is one of ten official holidays recognized annually by the NYSE and Nasdaq. The holiday was established in 1894 to honor the economic and social contributions of American workers. While U.S. markets are idle, several international exchanges are continuing with regular trading. The London Stock Exchange, Shanghai Stock Exchange, and Hong Kong's Stock Exchange remain open, as Labor Day is a specifically American holiday. Canada's Toronto Stock Exchange, however, is closed, observing its own Labour Day on the same date. Cryptocurrency markets represent a notable exception to the holiday closure.
