US Canada Trade War Escalates With New Bans Tariffs

The United States has escalated its trade dispute with Canada, announcing bans on specified imports and expanding tariffs on additional goods. The measures, enacted through presidential proclamations, are set to take effect in stages starting September 15 and September 29. Effective September 29, the U.S. will ban imports of certain Canadian alcoholic beverages, dairy products like whey and molasses, and specific motorcycles. These goods will continue to face a 50% tariff until the import bans go into effect. The U.S. administration also announced that starting September 15, tariffs of 50% will be expanded to cover a wider range of Canadian products, including specialty cheeses, certain types of leather, recreational motorboats, and furniture. In response to the U.S. actions, Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs of up to 50% on approximately $20 billion worth of U.S. goods.
