UPI sets September daily record as monthly totals dip

India’s Unified Payments Interface processed 24.07 billion transactions worth ₹29.37 lakh crore in September, according to National Payments Corporation of India data, while its average daily transaction count set a record at about 802 million. The monthly totals were lower than August’s, but September’s daily average was higher, as the month had one fewer day. UPI handled 24.51 billion transactions worth ₹29.82 lakh crore in August. September’s volume was down about 1.8% month on month and its value fell about 1.5%. The September average of 802 million transactions a day compared with about 791 million in August, crossing 800 million for the first time. Average daily transaction value was reported at approximately ₹97,913 crore. Year on year, September transaction volume increased 23% and transaction value rose 18%, NPCI figures showed. The longer-term growth came as UPI continued to process more than 20 billion monthly transactions, according to one report. For the first half of the current fiscal year, UPI processed about 145 billion transactions, up 27% from 114 billion in the corresponding period a year earlier, according to NPCI data cited in reporting.
