Universal Acquires Confession of Murder Remake Rights

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights for an American remake of the 2012 South Korean action thriller Confession of Murder. Glen Powell and Dan Cohen will produce the project through their production company Barnstorm, alongside Naomi Funabashi and Rishi Rajani of Winged Tiger. Chris MacBride is attached to write the screenplay. The original film, directed by Jung Byunggil and starring Jung JaeYung, centers on a serial killer who publishes an autobiography confessing to unsolved murders after the statute of limitations has expired. The narrative follows a detective and a victim's mother as they search for the author, while an anonymous individual claims to be the true killer. Details of MacBride's pitch for the remake are being kept confidential. Christine Sun is overseeing the project for Universal, with Jacquelina Rosso serving as co-producer for Barnstorm. Billy Acumen, CEO of B.A. Entertainment, which produced the original film, is reportedly involved in the adaptation. Powell, who co-founded Barnstorm with Cohen in 2025, has a busy slate.
