U.S. stocks near records as oil prices ease
U.S. stocks moved closer to record levels in Tuesday trading as Brent crude prices eased from recent highs, while high inflation and elevated Treasury yields continued to weigh on markets. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were higher during the session, but available reports did not establish their final closing levels or whether the S&P 500 ended above its previous closing record. The S&P 500 was reported up between 0.5% and 0.8% at different points in the day, with the Nasdaq also advancing and reaching an intraday record, according to market updates. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained roughly 200 to 265 points in reports taken at different times. Those figures are trading snapshots, not a single closing result. Brent crude traded around $98 to $100 a barrel on Tuesday, below nearly $110 a few weeks earlier. The decline eased some pressure on inflation and coincided with lower Treasury yields in the reports. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield was quoted near 5.25% to 5.28%, after reaching above 5.35% earlier, with the precise readings varying by report time.
