Sensex and Nifty Extend Gains for Second Session

Published 6 October 2026

Indian stocks rose for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, October 6, with the Sensex closing at 73,067.81, up 685.34 points, and the Nifty ending at 22,776.10, up 220.35 points. The gains extended a rebound that began Monday and left both benchmarks well above their early-session levels. The rally broadened during the day. Most sectoral indices advanced, while information technology and public-sector bank indices were exceptions, according to the closing market report. Broader market indices also finished higher. Trent and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the notable gainers; Trent rose nearly 12% after a stronger-than-expected second-quarter business update, while Kotak Mahindra Bank gained about 4% following its quarterly update, according to a market recap. Reliance Industries also contributed to the advance. Buying in the heavyweight stock added about 60 points to the Nifty’s gain, the recap reported. These stock-specific moves accompanied broader buying, but the available reporting does not establish that any single factor caused the market’s rise. Market commentary pointed to falling oil prices and company updates as possible support for sentiment.
