U.S. Q2 GDP Growth Revised Up to 2.2%

Published 1 October 2026

The U.S. economy grew at a 2.2% annualized rate in the second quarter of 2026, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said in its third estimate, revising growth up from an earlier estimate of 1.5%. Consumer spending strengthened, while higher imports reduced the overall growth figure. The April-through-June result was below the 2.5% annualized pace reported for the first quarter. The upward revision reflected adjustments to investment, consumer spending and government spending, according to the BEA. The latest estimate was the final of three scheduled assessments of second-quarter GDP, though GDP figures can be revised as more information becomes available. Consumer spending, which accounts for roughly two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, rose at a 3.8% annualized rate in the second quarter, up from 0.7% in the first quarter. A measure of underlying domestic demand, final sales to private domestic purchasers, increased at a 4.6% annualized rate. That measure excludes trade, inventories and government spending. Business investment outside housing rose about 9%, with reports describing spending related to artificial intelligence infrastructure as a contributor.
