U.S. expands Iran sanctions, warns foreign entities

The Trump administration announced a major expansion of its economic pressure campaign against Iran on Monday, warning that countries and companies maintaining business ties with Tehran could face secondary sanctions and lose access to the U.S. dollar-based financial system. The move, described by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as an "economic D-Day," comes as the U.S.-Iran conflict approaches its six-month mark. At a press conference, Bessent stated the U.S. is launching an "economic onslaught against Iran's financial connections around the globe." The objective, he said, is to "sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone.
