U.S. Embassy urges caution after five arrested near RAF Fairford

The U.S. Embassy in the United Kingdom urged Americans to exercise caution after five men were arrested near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on suspicion of terrorism-related and explosives offenses. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not established a motive or confirmed a foreign link. The embassy advised U.S. citizens to remain mindful of their personal security and follow instructions from local authorities. Its notice said U.S.-associated facilities, gatherings and organizations may face heightened risk. Police were alerted early Sunday after a local resident reported suspicious activity involving three vans near the air base. Officers arrested five men, and police said viable incendiary devices and chemicals were found in one vehicle. About 85 nearby homes were evacuated while specialist explosive ordnance personnel examined the vehicles. Gloucestershire Police chief Maggie Blyth said authorities believed the situation was contained, while agencies continued responding and supporting residents.
