Two killed, nine injured in Moscow region drone attack

Published 6 October 2026

Two people were killed and nine injured in an overnight drone attack on the Moscow region, Governor Andrei Vorobyov said Tuesday, as Russian officials reported hundreds of drones heading toward the capital and air defenses bringing down many of them. The dead were a 71-year-old man found beneath rubble at a private home in Barybino, south of Moscow, and a 20-year-old man in Radumlya, northwest of the capital, Vorobyov said. The reported toll includes residents who were hospitalized or received medical care, according to the governor’s account. The supplied reports do not establish a final independently verified casualty count. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 650 drones were detected heading toward the Moscow region overnight. Russian officials separately said 185 drones were destroyed or brought down over the region. Those figures describe different aspects of the response and should not be added together. The Russian Defense Ministry said 868 drones were intercepted across a broader area, including 11 Russian regions, Crimea and the Sea of Azov. Authorities also reported damage to homes and other structures.
