Two coworkers killed in Manassas workplace shooting
Two coworkers were killed and a third was injured in a shooting at an equipment-rental business in Manassas, Virginia, on Wednesday, and the suspect later died by suicide during a police standoff on Interstate 81, authorities said. Manassas Police Chief Doug Keen identified the suspect as Marvin Grant, 37. Police said Grant shot three coworkers during an altercation at the business before fleeing in a vehicle. The injured worker was in stable condition at a hospital in Fairfax, Keen said. The two people killed were identified as Richard Lamont, 48, and Christopher Serrano, 33. After Grant left the scene, detectives tracked his cellphone to the Harrisonburg area, Keen said. He later stopped on Interstate 81 in Augusta County, where he fatally shot himself during a standoff with Virginia State Police. State police said troopers did not use force. The circumstances surrounding the standoff and the shooting were described by police; the supplied accounts do not include an independent account of either event. The shooting prompted a search for Grant and temporary safety measures in the surrounding area while police sought him.
