South Carolina Mother Charged After Children Found Injured

Taylor Gosnell, 35, faces two counts of attempted murder and an additional weapon charge after her two children, ages 3 and 6, were found severely injured inside their Spartanburg County home, authorities said. The children were taken to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover. The six-year-old’s serious arm injuries could require amputation, prosecutors said, but the reports do not establish whether surgery was ultimately needed. Deputies were called to the home shortly after 2:30 p.m. on September 26 for a welfare check. The children were found unattended and covered in blood, according to authorities. Reports say the six-year-old had called a grandmother, who went to the residence with Gosnell’s former boyfriend; the former boyfriend requested the welfare check. A Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant estimated that the children had approximately 50 stab wounds combined. The estimate was attributed to the sheriff’s office and is not a separately established count. Prosecutors said some of the wounds were deep enough to reach bone. Authorities allege the children were attacked with a knife and a blunt object earlier that day.
