Police Find 28 Skulls in Abia Forest Camps

Abia State police said they recovered 28 skulls and other bones during raids on forest camps in Umuaku and Nneato, describing the remains as suspected victims of kidnapping. The identities of the dead and the circumstances of their deaths have not been established publicly, and police have not linked the remains to particular abductions. The raids took place over the weekend in Umunneochi district, where police said suspected criminals fled before officers could arrest them. Police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka said the camps were dismantled and that investigations and efforts to apprehend the suspects were continuing. Officers are examining the remains to establish who the people were and how they died. The discovery came amid reports of two mass abductions in northern Nigeria. Security reports and local sources cited by AFP said at least 47 farmers were abducted in Niger State on Saturday and 40 women in neighbouring Zamfara State on Sunday, for a reported total of 87 people.
