Stolen PlusAI trailers recovered with sand cargo intact

Two trailers belonging to autonomous-trucking company PlusAI were stolen from its Fremont, California, facility on September 23 and later recovered in nearby Newark with their sand cargo intact, according to reports. No arrests had been reported, and police had not publicly identified a motive or what the thieves may have been seeking. The trailers bore both PlusAI and Nvidia branding and each carried about 20,000 pounds of sand, for a combined load of roughly 40,000 pounds, or 20 tons. PlusAI uses the sand as simulated cargo in autonomous-truck testing, allowing the company to test vehicles with the weight of a loaded freight vehicle. The trailers were found in Newark after an acquaintance of a PlusAI executive recognized them and sent the executive a photograph, according to the accounts. The cargo remained inside when the trailers were recovered. Reports said the trailers had been taken from outside PlusAI’s Fremont facility overnight and were located roughly half a mile away. Details about how they were removed were not confirmed by police in the available accounts.
