Trump says decision on Hasan execution livestream is pending
The Trump administration had not decided by October 9 whether to livestream the scheduled execution of Nidal Hasan, President Donald Trump said, even as the Pentagon’s broadcast plan drew criticism and Vice President JD Vance questioned whether it would happen. Trump said the decision was still being made. He reiterated his support for executing Hasan by firing squad but did not say whether he supported showing the execution to the public. Vance said he was unsure a livestream would proceed and would not watch it if it did. His remarks did not amount to a call to cancel the broadcast. The Army has scheduled Hasan’s execution for December 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. Central Time at Fort Hood, Texas, according to an Army announcement and scheduling memo. The plan remains subject to legal proceedings. Hasan’s civilian lawyer, John Galligan, said seeking additional relief in federal court remained possible, but no final decision had been made about doing so. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the broadcast plan, saying the public should be able to watch.
