Trump orders agencies to use “Super Intelligence” instead

President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing executive-branch agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “artificial intelligence” and “AI” in official communications, to the extent permitted by law. The order also assigns the White House science and technology adviser a 60-day deadline to propose language for a federal definition of the new term and recommend related legal changes. The directive applies to agency correspondence, public communications, websites, reports and policy documents. It says the government should not acknowledge the terms “artificial intelligence” and “AI” in applicable settings, while leaving previously issued regulations, existing government contracts and grants, and archival records unchanged. Until a new statutory definition is established, the order temporarily applies the existing definition of artificial intelligence in Title 15 of the U.S. Code to “Super Intelligence.” The assigned official is to submit proposed legislative language to Congress; the order does not itself establish a new statutory definition or make the recommended changes to existing laws.
