Trump approval rating falls to 33 percent

Published 6 September 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to 33 percent, a low point in recent polling, as voters express growing dissatisfaction with the economy and cost of living. The figures, released around September 6, 2026, come less than two months before the November 3 midterm elections and raise concerns for Republican candidates seeking to retain control of Congress. The nationwide poll, conducted by the Financial Times and polling firm Focaldata between August 28 and September 1, found that 33 percent of registered voters approve of President Trump's job performance. This marks a three-point drop from the previous month and is described as the lowest level in the Financial Times' polling series. Another poll by Reuters and Ipsos also reported Trump's approval rating at 33 percent. Support among Republican voters has also weakened, with 72 percent approving of the president's performance, a figure described as a record low for the poll and the lowest level among Republicans since May. Economic conditions are a significant factor in the declining approval. Nearly two-thirds of registered voters surveyed indicated the economy is moving in the wrong direction.
