Tropical Storm Edouard hits Texas-Louisiana border

Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall Tuesday afternoon near the Texas-Louisiana border, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the Gulf Coast region but avoiding the worst-case scenario of rapid intensification into a hurricane. The storm struck just after 2 p.m. near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of approximately 60 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. The compact system moved northwest into southeastern Texas after landfall, quickly beginning to weaken. By Tuesday evening, forecasters expected Edouard to diminish into a tropical depression by Wednesday morning.
