Trailer Released for Rust Trial Documentary

Published 10 September 2026

A trailer has been released for The Trial of Alec Baldwin, a new documentary directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rory Kennedy that follows the actor through the aftermath of the fatal 2021 Rust shooting and his subsequent manslaughter trial. The trailer debuted Thursday, September 10, offering the first public look at a film built on what the filmmakers describe as full access to Baldwin's life during the legal proceedings. The documentary centers on the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed on October 21, 2021, when a prop gun held by Baldwin discharged on the New Mexico set of the Western film Rust. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the incident. Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger and did not know a live bullet was in the chamber. In the trailer, Baldwin, 68, reflects on the moment he learned of Hutchins's death. When they told me she died, I was in shock, he says. I was in disbelief. He also questions how the case unfolded, asking how he ended up in the situation and stating that officials would put him in jail if they could.
