The View Hosts Predict Tight Texas Senate Race Could Flip

Published 8 October 2026

Hosts of The View predicted on October 8 that Democrat James Talarico could defeat Republican Ken Paxton in Texas’ U.S. Senate race, while cautioning that polling leads do not guarantee an election victory. Their comments came as polling through October 5 showed Talarico narrowly ahead, with the November 3 election still to come. Sunny Hostin said she expected Texas to vote Democratic, citing September polling that she said showed Talarico leading Paxton. Alyssa Farah Griffin said the state was competitive and attributed the race’s dynamics to voter frustration and Republican decisions. Both offered opinions about the contest, not evidence of its eventual result. Ana Navarro urged supporters not to rely on polls or become complacent, saying they needed to vote. Whoopi Goldberg also voiced caution, recalling that expectations can shift. Their comments underscored the difference between survey preferences and votes cast on Election Day. A polling compilation through October 5 put Talarico at 48.4% and Paxton at 45.3% in the RealClearPolitics average, a 3.1-point lead for Talarico.
