Thailand cuts visa-free stay to 30 days for 60+ countries

Published 1 September 2026

Thailand will halve the maximum visa-free stay for tourists from more than 60 countries and territories to 30 days, effective September 15, the country's foreign ministry confirmed on Tuesday. The change, which was first announced in May, will affect travelers from the European Union, the United States, China, India, and many other nations who currently enjoy a 60-day visa exemption. The new rules were formalized in a Royal Gazette notification published on August 31, signed by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. According to the foreign ministry's consular affairs department, the reduction applies to over 60 countries and territories.
