Texas Police Department Disbanded After Controversial Arrest

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement has ordered the Trinidad Police Department to disband after an August inspection found it failed to meet minimum state standards. The decision, announced this week, follows a period of controversy that included the arrest of a local resident for a social media post about the town's water quality. According to state authorities, the inspection revealed the department could not meet the legal requirements for law enforcement agencies in Texas. As a result, the commission revoked the department's ability to make or maintain peace officer appointments. All officers must be separated from their positions by Friday, September 19, 2026. The disbandment comes after the arrest of Jennifer Combs, who was taken into custody following a Facebook post on her page, Southern Belle Watch. In the post, Combs stated that residents had been hospitalized due to bacteria in the water and called it a serious public health concern. Police defended the arrest, claiming the post created fear, panic, or unnecessary emergency response within the community.
