Tesla opens Nevada Semi factory as deliveries begin

Tesla has opened a factory dedicated to its Semi electric truck in Sparks, Nevada, and executives said deliveries to an initial group of customers began this week. The company says the plant is intended to produce up to 50,000 trucks annually, but the reports do not establish current output or a production schedule at that scale. Customers named at the plant event included PepsiCo and DHL; US Foods was also represented, according to an account of the event. Tesla executives said deliveries to an initial group had started, nearly nine years after CEO Elon Musk unveiled the truck. Musk did not attend the opening and addressed attendees in a prerecorded video. The opening took place on Thursday, September 24. Tesla’s July shareholder letter said Semi production would begin in 2026, revising an earlier expectation for volume production this year. The letter did not specify a 2026 output target. Tesla has reiterated the Nevada plant’s annual capacity target, but has not disclosed how many trucks it plans to produce during the year or how quickly production will ramp up.
