Tenth woman's body found in Soweto dam

A tenth woman's body was found wrapped in a duvet in a dam at Moroka, Soweto, at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and police have opened an inquest docket, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said. The woman, who is unidentified and believed to be in her 20s, was discovered in circumstances that remain unknown at this stage, Nevhuhulwi said. Police appealed to community members with information to contact their nearest station, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit an anonymous tip-off through the MySAPS app. The discovery brings to ten the number of women's bodies recovered in Gauteng in recent months. Nine women were found at different locations in Ekurhuleni between July 15 and September 17, in areas including Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, KwaThema and Dawn Park. The first victim, a 37-year-old woman, was found naked and restrained with cable ties in a field in Kempton Park on July 15. The ninth victim, Jabulile Ntimba, was found in an open area in Dawn Park on September 17 and had suffered a fatal throat injury. Police have arrested one man and two women in connection with Ntimba's killing.
