Symphonic Metal Singer Amanda Somerville Diagnosed With Brain Tumor

Symphonic metal vocalist Amanda Somerville has been diagnosed with a malignant and aggressive brain tumor, according to a statement from her husband, guitarist Sander Gommans. The news was shared on social media on September 19, 2026. Gommans, a founding member of the band After Forever, announced the diagnosis on Facebook and Instagram. "Unfortunately, I have some very sad news to share. The love of my life, mother of my three daughters and my beautiful wife Amanda Somerville, has a malignant and aggressive brain tumor," his post began. He described the family as "shocked, devastated" and facing immense challenges. The statement included a request for support. "Positive thoughts help, prayers help, keeping us in your minds help. Please be there for Amanda and our kids and have us in your minds," Gommans wrote. He added, "Amanda gives so much to all of us-love, music, friendship, strength. It's time to send out hope and power to her." The announcement prompted an outpouring of support from the music community. Fellow musicians, including Avantasia founder Tobias Sammet and vocalist Alessandro Del Vecchio, posted messages of encouragement and solidarity on social media.
