Suzy Kolber, the longtime ESPN anchor and reporter, has publicly detailed the emotional end of her 27-year tenure with the network, describing a painful layoff process in 2023 that left her feeling dismissed after decades of service. Kolber, 62, shared her account during a recent interview on the "Sports Media with Richard Deitsch" podcast, marking her first extensive comments on the departure. Kolber was part of a talent reduction at ESPN in June 2023 that affected approximately 20 on-air personalities, including Steve Young, Max Kellerman, and Jalen Rose. At the time, she hosted the network's "Monday Night Countdown" pregame show. According to Kolber, ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro warned her about a week before the official layoff that her name was on a "whiteboard" of potential cuts, though he could not confirm her fate at that moment. The uncertainty took a personal toll. Kolber recalled sitting in her kitchen with her daughter, crying as she realized her long career at the network was likely ending. "I think this is really happening," she told her daughter. The formal notification came during a call with ESPN executive Norby Williamson.
