Sunderland sign Tottenham defender Kevin Danso on loan

Sunderland have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Danso on a season-long loan, with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer. The 27-year-old Austria international joined the club on the final day of the summer transfer window, adding significant experience to their squad as they compete in both the Premier League and the Europa League this season. The deal includes an initial loan fee of £2.5 million. Tottenham confirmed that an obligation to buy, worth approximately £22 million, will be triggered if Sunderland avoid relegation from the Premier League. Should the move become permanent, Danso will sign a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. He has made 52 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, scoring once, and won the Europa League with the club in 2025. Sunderland's Director of Football, Florent Ghisolfi, who worked with Danso at RC Lens, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition. "Kevin is a player I know very well from my time working with him at RC Lens. He will bring strength, character and knowhow to the squad, and vast experience of playing in domestic and European competitions," Ghisolfi said.
