Sony Unveils New Pulse and Pulse Edge Headsets for PS5

Published 18 September 2026

Sony has announced two new wireless headsets for its PlayStation 5 console, the PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge, marking a refresh of its audio lineup with upgraded planar magnetic drivers and new features. The company revealed the headsets on September 15, positioning the Pulse Edge as the premium model with active noise cancellation and a detachable boom microphone. Both headsets utilize custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers, a technology Sony says delivers improved sound separation and spatial accuracy for pinpointing directional cues in games. The standard Pulse model features four magnets per driver, while the Pulse Edge doubles that to eight magnets per driver, which Sony states will produce fuller, deeper bass. The larger drivers are designed to enhance audio performance while retaining the clean sound quality of the previous Pulse Elite model. The most significant difference between the two models is the inclusion of active noise cancellation on the Pulse Edge, a first for a PlayStation-branded headset. This feature allows the headset to reduce external ambient sounds for the wearer. The standard Pulse does not have ANC.
