Sony Rolls Out Major PS5 Update With Social and Visual Features
Sony has released a major system software update for its PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro consoles, introducing new social and discovery features while enhancing visual performance for the premium model. The update, version 26.0614.00.00, began rolling out globally on September 16, 2026. The most significant addition for general users is the new Community Activity widget in the Welcome Hub. This feature provides two distinct views: Trending Now, which highlights ten multiplayer games or modes experiencing a surge in popularity, and Top 10, which lists the ten most popular games in a user's specific country or region over the past week. This marks the first time PlayStation has integrated such real-time popularity tracking directly into the console's interface, moving beyond the previous reliance on the PlayStation Store's top sellers list. For owners of the PS5 Pro, the update automatically enables the "Enhance PSSR Image Quality" setting by default. This feature utilizes the console's enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology to deliver a sharper and clearer visual experience, even for games that only support the previous version of PSSR.
