Simple Minds Announce New Album Sacrosanct for January 2027
Simple Minds have announced their new studio album, Sacrosanct, set for release on January 29, 2027, through BMG. The album, which follows 2022's Direction of the Heart, is heralded by the lead single "Beginner Boys," which is available now. The announcement marks a prolific period for the Scottish band, who are also preparing for a major world tour in 2027. Frontman Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill, the band's lifelong collaborators, have described Sacrosanct as a vital and confident record that recaptures the core magic of Simple Minds. Kerr explained the album's title, stating, "We called the album Sacrosanct because after a lifetime of doing this, nearly 50 years of writing songs together, it's stopped feeling like a career and started feeling like something closer to faith. Calling the record Sacrosanct isn't an exaggeration. It's just honest." The lead single, "Beginner Boys," is inspired by Kerr watching his twin grandsons grow up. He said the song explores "how strength, tenderness, courage, and gentleness might still belong together, even when the wider culture around them can send mixed signals.
