Saints owner Benson says 1-4 start is unacceptable
New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson said the team’s 1-4 start is unacceptable and that fans deserve better, publicly assigning responsibility across the organization while pledging to make decisions to improve its performance. Speaking Tuesday at a Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club luncheon, Benson addressed the Saints’ three consecutive losses, capped by a Week 5 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings. She said the team had fallen short of what supporters should expect and that she would not accept its current level of play as the organization’s standard. Benson said head coach Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing players, while general manager Mickey Loomis and the football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success. She assigned players responsibility for preparation and execution and said she was responsible for holding the organization accountable. She also said she was committed to making decisions necessary to improve the team. Benson did not specify any personnel changes or announce a particular action.
