The participation of veteran Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the 2027 ODI World Cup remains uncertain, with former India pacer Ashish Nehra stating it is too early to make a definitive prediction. Nehra, now the head coach of Gujarat Titans, believes that the players' form, fitness, and performances in the lead-up to the tournament will ultimately determine their selection. The World Cup is approximately 13 months away, and Nehra emphasized that in sports, significant changes can occur even within weeks or months. Speaking at the Cricket Association of Bengal's awards ceremony, Nehra noted that while Rohit Sharma will be 40 and Virat Kohli will be 39 during the tournament, age should not be the sole determining factor. He pointed to the unpredictability of team selections, citing Shubman Gill's absence from the current T20 squad despite his prominence in ODIs and Tests. Nehra stressed that performance is paramount and that if both players continue to score runs consistently, they should remain in contention. However, Nehra also highlighted that the decision to select players for the World Cup squad is not unilateral.
