Rohit Sharma leads Jammu and Kashmir on Ranji opening day
Jammu and Kashmir opened their 2026-27 Ranji Trophy title defence by bowling Madhya Pradesh out for 196 on October 11, led by fast bowler Rohit Sharma’s five-wicket haul. At stumps on day one in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir were 31 for one in reply. Rohit took five wickets for 36 runs in 21.2 overs, while Sunil Kumar claimed four wickets as Madhya Pradesh were dismissed in 74.2 overs. Captain Paras Dogra had chosen to bowl first. Madhya Pradesh captain Shubham Sharma top-scored with 79 from 174 balls; Aryan Pandey made 35. Madhya Pradesh pacer Avesh Khan dismissed Shubham Khajuria for a duck early in Jammu and Kashmir’s reply. Qamran Iqbal was 3 not out and Vanshaj Sharma 0 not out at the close, according to the match-day account. The match had not been completed by stumps on the opening day. The opening round began with 19 fixtures across India: 16 in the Elite division and three in the Plate group. Jammu and Kashmir, who won their first Ranji Trophy title last season, are in Elite Group A alongside Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Goa, Baroda and Puducherry.
