Rohit, Kohli Return as India Name Split Squads for West Indies Series
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced its squads for the upcoming home series against the West Indies on September 16, 2026, with veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning to the One Day International (ODI) side. The selection is heavily influenced by the concurrent Asian Games in Japan, leading to split squads and the omission of key players like Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant from the white-ball teams. Shubman Gill will captain the 15-member ODI squad, with KL Rahul named as his vice-captain. The series, comprising three ODIs, begins on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by matches in Guwahati on September 30 and New Chandigarh on October 3. Rohit's selection ends speculation about his future in the format after he scored a century in the final ODI against England in July. The squad features two maiden ODI call-ups: Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir and Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been withdrawn from the Asian Games squad and added to the ODI group, providing a seam-bowling all-rounder option in the absence of Hardik Pandya.
