Riyadh Airport Attack Kills 12 as Trump Weighs U.S. Role
A missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh killed 12 people and injured 309 on Saturday, according to Saudi civil aviation authorities, as President Donald Trump said the United States was considering whether to join Saudi strikes against Yemen’s Houthis. The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation reported the casualty figures. The dead included four Saudis and eight foreign nationals, among them a U.S. citizen, the authority said. The injured included people receiving hospital treatment, though officials did not provide a further breakdown in the available reports. Airport operations were suspended and flights diverted after the attack while authorities assessed the damage, Saudi officials said. The airport serves Riyadh, a city of roughly eight million people. The suspension disrupted air travel to and from the Saudi capital; authorities had previously said operations would remain paused while safety and damage were assessed. Trump, speaking to reporters on Saturday, said Washington might join Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against the Houthis and that his administration would consider the matter before making a decision.
