Revolut gets conditional US bank charter approval
British fintech Revolut has received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a national bank, a significant step toward launching a fully licensed banking operation in the United States. The decision, announced on September 3, 2026, moves the company closer to its goal of offering a direct suite of financial services to American customers, though it still requires further regulatory sign-offs before it can open its doors. The conditional approval allows Revolut to charter an entity named Revolut Bank US, N.A., which would be headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. The company plans to inject approximately $95 million in initial capital and expects the bank to employ about 160 people at launch. Revolut is targeting the first half of 2027 for the bank's debut, pending the completion of the remaining regulatory process. "Conditional OCC approval is an important first step towards establishing the proposed Revolut Bank US," said Nik Storonsky, Revolut's founder and group CEO. "It gives us the foundation to build in the world's largest financial market and bring the full Revolut experience to millions of Americans.
