Republican Committees Back FCC in ABC License Dispute

The National Republican Senatorial Committee and National Republican Congressional Committee filed a brief supporting the Federal Communications Commission in its dispute with ABC, arguing that the network’s political programming, including The View, supports accelerated license-renewal proceedings for its stations. The allegations have not been ruled on by a court. The committees filed the 27-page brief on September 28 in federal court. Their filing alleges that The View has an explicit partisan bent and says its political programming helps justify early renewal proceedings for ABC stations. The committees argue that the program has given greater exposure to Democratic-aligned figures than to conservative voices, and they characterize Alyssa Farah Griffin’s role as the show’s conservative seat as evidence of its panel’s composition. The brief also cites comments by producer Brian Teta about Griffin’s place on the panel and appearances by Republican figures, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Vice President JD Vance. The committees argue that those appearances do not offset what they describe as historically less exposure for conservative-aligned voices.
