Renshaw century lifts Australia to 277-8 against South Africa
Matt Renshaw scored his second Test century to help Australia recover from an early collapse and reach 277-8 at lunch on the second day of the first Test against South Africa in Durban on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Renshaw was 102 not out after 96 overs, having faced 218 balls and hit 10 fours. He reached three figures from his 204th delivery, his first Test century since making 184 against Pakistan in Sydney in January 2017. Australia had been 24-2 on Friday and fell to 124-6 before Renshaw steadied the innings. He came in at No. 5 after Nic Maddinson was selected to open, and was unbeaten on 46 at the close of the first day, which ended early because of bad light. Renshaw and captain Pat Cummins put on a substantial partnership to revive the innings. Reports gave the stand as either 84 or 86 runs. Cummins made 43 before being caught at slip off Wiaan Mulder, who took three wickets in the morning session. Mulder later bowled Mitchell Starc for six. Renshaw then added an unbeaten 47 for the ninth wicket with Nathan Lyon, who was seven not out at lunch. Australia had reached 277-8 after 96 overs, with the pair still at the crease.
