Qatar PM visits Tehran to revive US-Iran diplomacy
Qatar's prime minister is set to visit Tehran on Thursday in a bid to revive diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran, even as the White House stated there are no talks scheduled with Tehran. The visit comes amid heightened tensions over control of the Strait of Hormuz and a new wave of U.S. sanctions aimed at isolating Iran economically. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will travel to Tehran on August 27, according to Reuters. However, the White House on Wednesday denied any direct engagement.
