Everton Blair Jr. wins Georgia special election for House seat

Published 26 August 2026

Everton Blair Jr. has won the special election runoff for Georgia's 13th Congressional District, becoming the first openly gay man elected to Congress from the state. The victory, confirmed on August 25, 2026, allows Blair to serve out the remainder of the term left vacant by the death of longtime Democratic Representative David Scott in April. With more than 95 percent of votes counted, Blair, a former chair of the Gwinnett County school board, defeated Marcye Scott, the late congressman's daughter, by a margin of 53 percent to 47 percent. The Associated Press called the race.
