PS5 Emulator Runs GTA V on PC at 60 FPS
A PlayStation 5 emulator has achieved a significant milestone, demonstrating the ability to run the console version of Grand Theft Auto V on PC at frame rates between 40 and 60 frames per second. This breakthrough, showcased on September 6, 2026, marks a substantial leap in emulation technology, though the game remains unstable and crashes after a few minutes of gameplay. The KyTyPS5 emulator, a prominent project in the emulation scene, successfully ran the opening North Yankton sequence of Grand Theft Auto V on a high-end PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU and an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT GPU. While the footage revealed impressive performance for the prologue, the game is not yet fully playable, with crashes occurring before or during the initial police encounter. This represents a dramatic improvement from July 2026, when the emulator could barely boot 3D games or get past initial menus. This rapid advancement in PS5 emulation is occurring as anticipation builds for the console release of Grand Theft Auto VI, scheduled for November 19, 2026. Rockstar Games has not yet announced a release date for a PC version of the highly anticipated title.
