Protesters repeatedly interrupt Trump’s Paxton rally in Texas
President Donald Trump’s remarks at a San Antonio rally for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton were repeatedly interrupted by protesters Wednesday, October 7, and security or police removed several demonstrators. Accounts differ on the number of separate interruptions, ranging from at least three to at least six, but describe multiple disruptions during the speech. Trump initially tried to continue speaking as demonstrators called out and the crowd booed. He paused at several points and responded with jokes and insults, including comments about one protester’s appearance and their mother’s vote. Security or police escorted multiple people from the venue. Trump also alleged that protesters were paid and coordinated, telling the crowd that they were paid by enemies of the nation. The reports provided no independent evidence to support the allegation, and the protesters’ identities, motives and any coordination were not established. The rally at Freeman Coliseum was held to support Paxton, Texas’ attorney general and the Republican Senate nominee, in his contest against Democratic candidate James Talarico.
