Prosecutor diGenova resigns from Justice Department probe

Joseph diGenova, the 81-year-old former federal prosecutor who led a Justice Department investigation into alleged anti-Trump conspiracy among former intelligence and law enforcement officials, resigned on Thursday, telling multiple outlets it was an honor and a privilege to serve the president and the department. He declined to elaborate on the circumstances of his departure, saying only that he was moving on. DiGenova was appointed in April by then-acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to take over the Florida-based probe, which sought to establish that President Donald Trump was the victim of a long-running criminal conspiracy within U.S. government agencies. His resignation came roughly five months after his appointment and without the investigation producing any criminal charges. According to people familiar with the determination, Justice Department officials had lost confidence in diGenova's leadership and felt the investigation was not moving quickly enough, even after he was provided with a team of department lawyers from Washington.
