Praggnanandhaa made history on Thursday, August 27, 2026, becoming the first Indian to win the Grand Chess Tour title after a stunning comeback victory over defending champion Fabiano Caruana in Saint Louis. The 21-year-old Grandmaster from Chennai secured a 15-13 triumph, erasing a significant deficit to claim the prestigious crown and the $200,000 winner's prize. Praggnanandhaa entered the final day trailing Caruana by six points, 3-9, after the classical games. He had lost the opening classical game 0-6 and drawn the second 3-3. However, he produced a remarkable turnaround in the rapid section, winning both games to surge into an 11-9 lead.
