Police probe footage of dinghy damage after Gosport protest

Hampshire Constabulary is investigating online footage that appears to show activist Daniel Thomas, known as Danny Tommo, damaging an inflatable dinghy in the Channel on September 22, while six people were arrested after a protest in Gosport over the expected arrival of migrants. The dinghy was emptying when the footage was recorded, and a rescue crew member was aboard, according to reports describing the video. Police have not announced findings or legal action arising from the footage. The boat had carried 51 migrants and was expected by some protesters to arrive in Gosport. Instead, it reached Dover at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, after a journey reported to have lasted roughly 33 hours. The migrants had been shadowed by a French coastguard vessel and were collected by British rescue boats on Tuesday. Reports said they had refused assistance from the French vessel. Hundreds of people gathered at a Gosport marina on Tuesday evening, mistakenly believing the boat would arrive there. Hampshire police said six people were arrested.
