Pete Davidson Says Drug Use Led Him to Rehab

Published 1 October 2026

Pete Davidson said he sought rehabilitation after a period of severe drug use that he described as reaching a breaking point in 2023, and that he is now essentially sober. In an interview published September 30, the comedian and actor recounted using several substances and said a worried call from his mother helped prompt him to seek treatment. Davidson said that at the height of his addiction he used ketamine, acid, mushrooms, whippets, cannabis and pills. He described obtaining liquid ketamine and preparing it for use, and said he took pills daily and smoked cannabis throughout the day. His tolerance became frightening, he said, because he felt high even when he was not using drugs. He placed his lowest point in the summer of 2023, after leaving Saturday Night Live in 2022 and while working on Bupkis, an autobiographical series in which he played himself. Davidson said revisiting painful parts of his life for the show was traumatic and that he turned to drugs to numb the distress. He also said leaving Saturday Night Live had meant losing the routine and structure the job provided.
